Where to stay —
shop lodging, or DIY
Where to stay: shop lodging or book it yourself.
For foreign divers, lodging splits two ways — (A) accommodation run or arranged by a dive shop/resort (a dive + stay package, one-stop), or (B) booking regular lodging yourself. About 39 of 81 dive shops (48%) offer lodging, so if diving is the main goal, shop lodging has the least friction. The real friction is not the room but booking and payment.
Seven kinds you'll find across the coastal regions
Prices are rough 2025–2026 ranges and vary widely by season, party size and grade.
Packages with dawn boats and pickup. One-stop, better odds of English. Often ₩20,000–50,000/night.
Coastal private houses/rooms with kitchen, BBQ and ondol heating. Good for groups and gear rinsing. ₩80,000–200,000+/unit.
Dorms plus private rooms with a shared lounge. Friendly for solo divers. ₩20,000–50,000.
Everywhere in port and coastal towns, clean and walk-in. Weak on English. ₩50,000–90,000/night.
City hubs in Busan, Gangneung and Yeosu; easy international booking. Transfer to the port needed. From ₩80,000.
Family homes on Ulleungdo, islands and fishing villages (₩30,000–70,000, cash), plus K-culture hanok stays.
Foreigners: use international platforms
Homegrown apps (Yanolja, Yeogi-eottae) win on local lowest prices, but they have no English UI and effectively block foreign cards and overseas-number verification. For foreigners, booking on international platforms is safer.
- Recommended: Booking.com (40 languages, 120 currencies), Agoda (deep coverage of Korean pensions), Airbnb (check 2025 regulations), Klook (lodging + diving bundles)
- Use Yanolja/Yeogi-eottae for price comparison only — pay on international platforms
- Shop-run lodging standardizes on phone, KakaoTalk and bank transfer — confirm English support first
Diving + stay, one-stop
About 39 shops offer or arrange lodging (48% of all 81). They range from shop-run guesthouses and attached pensions to one-stop resort formats. Prices vary by season, number of dives and grade, so asking the shop directly is most accurate.
- Seogwipo two-dive boat trip ₩100,000 + full gear rental ₩30,000 (varies by shop and season).
- Published price lists are rare, so KakaoTalk or Instagram DM inquiries are the norm.
- Prices are rough 2025–2026 ranges — vary widely by season, party size and grade.
- The 39/81 lodging-offering shops figure is from internal data — confirm directly before booking.
