거문도

개요(Overview)

전라남도 여수시 삼산면, 다도해해상국립공원 최남단의 영해기점 유인섬. 고도·서도·동도 세 섬(삼호교·거문대교로 연결)과 삼부도·백도 군도를 아우른다. 1885년 영국 함대가 점령해 '포트 해밀턴'으로 불렸고 1905년 남해안 최초의 등대가 세워졌다. 서도 코바위 직벽 등이 다이빙 포인트로 알려져 있으며, 연산호와 해마 서식지로 소개된다. 인근 백도는 유람선으로만 관람 가능한 무인 군도.

Inhabited territorial-baseline island at the southern edge of Dadohaehaesang National Park, in Samsan-myeon, Yeosu. Comprises three islands — Godo, Seodo, Dongdo (linked by bridges) — plus the Sambudo and Baekdo island groups. Occupied by the British fleet in 1885 ('Port Hamilton'); the south coast's first lighthouse was built here in 1905. Known dive points include the vertical wall at Kobawi off Seodo, and the area is promoted for soft coral and seahorse habitat.
